You deserve better – Vote for Siobhan Strode

I’m Siobhan Strode, your Labour Party Candidate. As a hard working self-employed mum of two with a background in education, I understand the day-to-day struggles of ordinary people of every age and circumstance. It’s my job to listen to what you say, actually hear you, and then take action.

I cannot sit by and watch as our rural constituency is left behind, Tory austerity continues to wreck our schools, our NHS, our environment and all the essential welfare and services we depend on. We must protect the vital support systems that were set in place for us all – not just the few – by past Labour governments.

I’ve been a Councillor for Great Torrington since December 2017 and I’m dedicated to making our constituency a great place to live, work and play. That’s why I’m focusing on five key points for the coming General Election, all of which have a big impact on our lives in the local area. Here they are.

1. The environment has always been core to my campaigning. Our children deserve a better, greener world. As a Labour Party conference delegate this year I fought for the New Green New Deal, promoting green industrial growth and the roll-out of sustainable energy. We’re aiming for zero carbon growth by 2030.
2. I’m determined to help heal our NHS, with no more cuts and no more back-door privatisation. We’ve already lost quite enough hospital beds across Torridge and West Devon, social care services in our area are in crisis, and we all deserve better than this.
3. Every single young person in our region deserves a really good education that’ll see them through the rest of their lives, a strong foundation for a life well-lived. That’s my aim.
4. As a rural community we need to better support our farmers and fishermen. They deserve better quayside and farmgate proces for their products, a better reward for the role they play in feeding the nation.
5. Our economy has suffered terribly from Tory austerity, and the country is in more debt than ever. At the same time the rich have become a lot richer. It isn’t fair, it isn’t right, and I’m determined to change things.

Only the Labour Party has what it takes to bring about these dramatic sweeping changes, the biggest changes in a generation. If you want a government that genuinely cares about economic and social justice for everyone, not just the wealthy few, join me. Together we’re strong.
